Vineyards

Whitehall Lane owns and operates six prime Napa Valley vineyards that are the cornerstone on which all of the wines are made. They take full advantage of these properties and their Napa Valley climate to grow grapes that are ripe and loaded with varietal flavors.

Five of the vineyards are situated on the floor of the Napa Valley, primarily in the Rutherford sub-appellation. The soils tend to have lots of gravel and the rootstocks, grape varieties and clones were selected for each specific block in every vineyard. The sixth vineyard is nestled at the base of the eastern hills in St. Helena and also offers world class Cabernet Sauvignon.

The winery utilizes modern viticulture science in the vineyards to grow the best grapes possible. Infrared aerial photos of each vineyard are taken throughout the growing season to measure the growth of the leaf canopy. They also examine the physical properties of the soils in each vineyard, measuring depths of soil horizons, rooting depth and water holding capacity. Wireless capacitance probes are utilized to achieve precision irrigation. Neutron and C-probes use electrical charges to measure soil moisture. This information is then analyzed in contrast to the reading produced by a pressure bomb. Pressure bombs measure the amount of moisture in a leaf. In addition to this advanced technology, they have the experienced eyes of their winemaker and vineyard managers who walk the vineyards daily and ensure everything possible is done to grow spectacular wine grapes.

Whitehall Lane Vineyard Estates

Estate Vineyard

Grapes have grown at this Rutherford site since before 1880. The winery was added to the property in 1979 and the Leonardini Family purchased the Winery and vineyard in 1993. The vineyard was replanted beginning in 1994.

Leonardini Vineyard

First planted to grapes in the late 1800's on a large tract of land on the southern outskirts of St. Helena. The old-time farmers of the area say the soil, Cortina Gravely Loam, in this particular area is renowned for "black" wine grapes. Today this 14-acre parcel is again planted to Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes.

Bommarito Vineyard

Located on Galleron Road in the Rutherford Appellation. The vineyard is approximately 25 acres and has produced outstanding grapes since the early 1920's when Dominic Bommarito purchased the Rutherford property to plant a vineyard and build a summer home. Whitehall Lane purchased the property in 1994 and replanted the vineyard in 2000.

Rutherford West Vineyard

Located less than a half mile from the winery estate on the northwest edge of the Rutherford Appellation. This vineyard has a long history of producing Reserve style Cabernet Sauvignon grapes for some of the historic and storied Napa Valley wineries. Whitehall Lane Winery purchased the property in 2000.

Oak Glen Vineyard

Situated near a grove of majestic Oak trees on the eastern side of the Napa Valley floor. This 25-acre parcel on Silverado Trail is between the towns of Napa and Yountville in the newly designated Oak Knoll District appellation. The soils are very gravelly with excellent drainage down to the Napa River.

Fawn Park Vineyard

Just off the valley floor on the eastern hills at the Silverado Trail and Deer Park Road in St. Helena. The vineyard is planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon and has excellent draining soils with spectacular sun exposure.
