Wine: Cabernet Sauvignon
Appellation: St. Helena, Napa Valley
Designation: Leonardini Vineyard
Blend: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
The Vintage: In 2004, heavy winter rains and warm March weather led to an early bud break in our Leonardini Vineyard. The perfect summer weather that followed was ideal for flavor and sugar development in the grapes and these exceptional growing conditions concluded in an early harvest. The Cabernet Sauvignon grapes in this St. Helena vineyard matured approximately 10 days ahead of normal. The yields were somewhat lower than expected but resulted in outstanding, concentrated fruit.
Winemaking: The grapes were picked by hand in one small block of the Leonardini Vineyard on September 27, 2004. It was fermented in a temperature-controlled tank for 14 days and aged in 100% French oak cooperage for 25 months.
Tasting Notes: This wine is true to its terroir, displaying perfect balance between fruit and structure. It has enticing aromas of black cherry, plum, toffee and hints of vanilla. The texture is round and luxurious with delicious flavors of blackberry, cassis, cherry and mocha. It displays exceptional balance and finishes with lingering, round tannins. This classic offering shows beautifully now but will continue improving through 2019.
